The Nodes of the Moon are Changing

Writer's picture: Lauren D'SilvaLauren D'Silva

The nodes of the moon are changing. They will be in Pisces – Virgo for the next 18 months. This is the beginning of a new collective cycle of learning.

The nodes of the moon are always in opposing Zodiac signs to each other. They are the points in space where the orbit of the Earth around the Sun intersects with the orbit of the Moon around the Earth. These intersections are where the eclipses will occur.

The north node of the moon is the energy we collectively need to learn about, these are aspects of ourselves and of humanity we need to explore to help us evolve. In Vedic astrology the north node is called the head of the dragon. The south node is the sign we are growing from - in Vedic astrology this is the tail of the dragon. It doesn’t mean we ignore the good aspects of that sign, but we can release the shadow aspects if we are carrying them.

There is always a tension and a balancing act between the nodes because these signs oppose each other in the Zodiac. The challenge is to bridge the differences to bring through the best of both signs.

You have personal nodes of the moon in your birth chart – if you look yours up the symbols appear a bit like little horseshoes on your birth chart (see the graphic). If only the north node is shown you can draw a line straight across the chart to find the opposite sign and that will be your south node.

Personal nodes on your birth chart (rather than the collective ones we experience together) tell you what your soul came in to experience (north node) and what kind of energy you are already familiar with through your past lives (south node). For example I have a Taurus north node and Scorpio south node – psychic sensitivity and the emotions are my comfort zone. My challenge this lifetime is to stay well grounded and be practical and resourceful in the physical realm too.

With a north node in Pisces for the next 18 months we’ll collectively have the opportunity to open up more spiritually and explore other realms and dimensions. This is a spiritually awakening energy. Those of us who are complementary therapists are likely to be busier as people become more open to explore their health holistically. Psychics and spiritual teachers could be in demand too. The challenge will be to stay well grounded and not become anxious, confused or be misled by misinformation and disharmony in the world.

Retaining a Virgoan capacity for analysing, organising and taking practical, physical steps towards good health is important. However it is time to let go of any shadow Virgo traits you carry such as being over critical, particularly too self-critical and fault finding.

If you want some crystal companions to support this shift I would reach for classic birthstones - amethyst for dreamy, mystical Pisces and blue sapphire for Virgo to stay grounded in truth and beauty.
