Intentional and purposeful jewellery has a long history. Jewels are beautiful things in their own right of course, but often rings, brooches and necklaces were less about adornment and more about the symbolic and magical power of the stones. Wearing stones as amulets of health or protection are early uses which are still relevant today. Jewels may also convey status or even divine power. Think of the jewels that bedeck kings and queens, or rings worn by bishops for example, however crystal jewellery doesn't have to be made of expensive gems to be effective at supporting your energy.
I love this little leopardskin jasper ring that came to me as a gift in the post a few years ago from a student of mine in the USA. It was the first ring Tamalla Mallet of Your Empowerment Place made after taking her silversmithing course. Tamalla told me it was, “Entirely Spirit driven, I was just the hands.” When it was complete she realised it wasn’t created for her; it wasn’t her size, but she trusted she’d made it for a reason and that she’d be shown the recipient. Then we had a one-to-one session online together and while we were talking she heard Spirit say clearly, “It’s for her!” She checked my ring size and indeed it was right for me, it’s a perfect fit. I’ve dubbed this my ‘bravery ring’ as wearing it makes me feel grounded and secure even when I am stepping way beyond my comfort zone – such as walking into a packed conference hall where I don’t know anyone or travelling alone to a new place.
How to Choose the Right Jewellery to Wear
I mention jewellery in my Crystals book as this is one of the simplest and quickest ways you can incorporate the power of crystals and gemstones into your everyday life and most people already own some gemstone jewellery. Choosing and wearing your jewellery with intention helps you bring the most helpful and supportive crystalline energy into your day. Of course knowing what you would like help with can fine tune the choice you make and inform any future jewellery purchases too.
Think about the day you have ahead. Will you be busy with work? Socialising? Travelling? Going on a date? You can then look up the qualities of the gemstones you own in my book to find a good match for the support you need. For example if you are dating then a romantic choice like rose quartz might help you feel more receptive, whereas if you need to study you'll want a crystal that can help you focus and think more clearly such as fluorite or clear quartz.
If you are short of time simply choose what to wear intuitively for the day ahead. You'll find that your intuition is usually right!
Cleanse Your Crystal and Gemstone Jewellery
Remember that any gemstone jewellery will need periodic cleansing just as your crystals do – people often forget about this. The stones you wear may have been working hard for you and they can become less effective over time and in need of a refresh. A lot of more expensive jewellery is made from hard gemstones that can easily be cleansed with water. Pieces of classic jewellery set with diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds for example are hard enough to pass down through the generations and are resilient to scratching. Some dress jewellery is still beautiful to wear but may contain softer stones such as malachite and fluorite. These need gentle handling to keep them looking their best. If you don’t know the hardness of the stones in your jewellery collection I’ve included hardness in my book’s Crystal Directory as this is practical information that can guide you on the best way to look after your crystals.
I love that my leopardskin jasper ring is a unique piece that was handmade in a guided way with care. Part of the power of this ring comes from the stone; leopardskin jasper has a grounding and calming effect, yet I have other grounding stones in rings; this one has something extra that went into it during the making. In a world of mass-produced, off the shelf stuff, a handmade piece of jewellery is truly something special, and more so when it has been created with spiritual guidance. Maybe you'll find a local jewellery maker who understands crystals and can work in this connected way, or you could contact Tamalla herself. Mention me if you do.
